Basic Equipment for On-the-go Photographers
Many photographers have their list of essential equipment that they carry with them, or always use in the studio. For those who would like to keep their carrying to a minimum, here are a few of the most basic things that you will need in any given situation.
The camera – well that’s a no-brainer, right? This is still the most important piece of equipment any photographer has, so try to invest in a good quality one and once you have it, take very good care of it. In the age of digital everything, the old SLR’s are all but forgotten. But, some people who really took care of their cameras still have good quality photos to show from them after 20, 30, or even more years of usage. So take good care of your camera and you may have a vintage camera on your hands one day.
Lenses – many cameras come with a built in lens, in which case you won’t have to think about it too much. But having just one lens can be limiting to an innovative photographer, so many photographers choose cameras that have interchangeable lenses. The type of lens you use can have a great impact on the photo you take, so choosing what type of lens to use can be somewhat of a fine art. They are generally not cheap, so getting the right type of lens for your style of photography will save you time and money. Most photographers carry at least two lenses with them at all times; a wide angle lens, and a telephoto lens. A wide angle lens shows a wide field of vision, while a telephoto lens is like attaching binoculars to the end of your camera so that you can focus on things that are further in the distance.
Filters – lens filters serve to protect your expensive camera lens without affecting the photo image. There are many different types of filters, and you can even find polarized filters that will completely cut any no no hair removal reviews glare out of your photo. But, the main advantage of having a filter is that it protects the lens from dirt and other things that could harm it. Once you put the filter on you will probably never notice it again, but it’s reassuring to know that if your camera accidentally tips off the park bench onto the gravel, your pricey lens won’t get scratched.
Flashes – most cameras have a built in flash, but it is helpful to have an extra flash on hand for low light conditions, as most built in flashes aren’t that strong. A detachable flash that you can hold higher, lower, or at another angle to your subject makes lighting the subject to your liking much easier.
The camera bag – this serves many uses, and is the essential piece of gear for any traveling photographer. Your bag serves as protection to your camera and all the other equipment you put in it. It protects them from falls, heat, cold, and other potentially dangerous situations. It can also double as a handbag for those photographers who never go anywhere without their cameras and it can serve as a support for the camera when you don’t happen to have a tripod with you.
